A thread chaser works by cleaning out the internally threaded holes in your engine block. To use a thread chaser you simply run the tool through the hole and remove it, this process is then repeated until the threads are clean.
A thread chaser is different than a tap in that a chaser is not meant to cut new threads, only clean them. It is essential to remove debris such as dried sealants, lubricants, gasket material, and anything else that may fall into the internal bolt holes in your engine block.
